Tyler, Bode, and Kinsey, their sister, witness the violent death of their father Rendall, at the hands of a teenager he once counseled. Their mother is assaulted but survives. What's left of the tramatized family moves in with their father's brother, Duncan, who lives at Key House, an old family estate in Lovecraft, Massachusetts. Bode goes exploring and finds a hidden key to an outside door. Stepping through the doorway, Bode becomes a ghost. Now in prison, the Sam Lesser, the killer, sees an image of a woman's face talk to him from the toilet in his cell, promising him he will soon escape.
