Treachery and Death stalk Gilead tonight. Bewitched by Marten Broadcloak, servant of John Farson, Gabrielle Deschain has stolen the key to his safe and tried to steal the magical stone known as Maerlyn's Grapefruit for her lover. Her act was discovered by her son, Roland, who retrieved the stone. But due to the sorcery of Rhea of the Coos, Roland was deceived into shooting his mother down, thinking Rhea herself stole up behind him to murder him. Gabrielle wasn't Farson's only agent within Gilead this night. His own nephew had infiltrated the castle. When Cort Andrus, trainer of Gunslingers, discovered his treachery he killed him. Now he, and sage Abel Vannay search Kingson's room for some clue as to Farson's plans while Steven Deschain, Dinh of Gilead, searches for his treacherous wife.
